CBS News reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger is leading a new effort against partisan gerrymandering. The actor, and former two term Governor of California, has started a fundraising campaign to bring attention to the issue and to take actions for sensible reform. Gerrymandering is the manipulation of electoral districts by packing them with a majority of persons supporting one political party. As Governor Schwarzenegger aptly puts it, “politicians now pick their voters instead of the voters picking their politicians.”
The issue is due to fall under a different spotlight this October, when the Supreme Court hears arguments in Gill v. Whitford, potentially the most consequential gerrymandering case to be brought before the Court in more than a decade.
